The Bend of the River Botanic Garden will provide Central Texas with a natural space for learning, cultural enrichment, research and recreational activities. The Garden will offer venues for public and private events, opportunities to improve health and wellness in a natural setting, cultural and educational programming and research, and serve as a destination location for the enjoyment of nature and outdoor recreation.
The Bend of the River property in Temple, TX is located at the southernmost
gateway to the city. Featuring magnificent river views, large pecan trees and
wide open spaces this property is truly remarkable.
Belonging to longtime residents, Reuben and Bernice Talasek, this approximately thirty acre
riverfront property located along Interstate 35 has hosted dignitaries, celebrities as well as many
community events. In 2011, the property was donated to the City of Temple in honor of
Mr. Talasek for the creation of a park or park-like community facility.
In 2017, an additional 58 acres of riverfront acreage was acquired by the City, bringing the site to
nearly 90 acres. During this time, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved
the land for public use and Temple’s City Council voted to approve the conceptual master plan
for the Bend of the River Botanic Garden.
To help make this incredible project a reality, the Bend of the River Botanic Garden Foundation
has been created to raise private funds to provide a beautiful, natural space for learning, cultural
enrichment, research and outdoor recreation.
